Cadets will become real defenders of motherland, says Kyrgyz general in India

Chief of the General Staff of the armed forces of the Kyrgyz Republic Major General Raimberdi Duishenbiyev said on Thursday that the graduates of the military academy will become real defenders of their motherland.

The Kyrgyz general was invited as the reviewing officer for 133rd course of the NDA. “Today, the armed forces of all countries in the world need young, energetic and brave military personnel equipped with modern knowledge and excellent military training.

I am convinced that by studying in an excellent educational institution with an excellent education base, an experienced teaching staff, graduates of the NDA will become real defenders of their motherland,” he said.

Addressing the cadets, he said, “In a few years, you (the cadets) will serve in military units. Solving complex and responsible tasks will require a complete dedication from you.

I am sure that you will adequately bear your mission of serving and defending the motherland.” Sixth-time lucky Babasaheb Sambhaji Patil, a youngster from Uchgaon on the outskirts of Kolhapur, was among the 250 proud cadets who passed out from the academy on Thursday.

His life is a fitting example of “try and try until you succeed”. Babasaheb, whose father is a retired subedar from the Maratha Light Infantry (MLI) regiment, appeared for the National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exam five times.

However, when he failed to crack it, he joined 109 Territorial Army (TA) battalion of MLI in Kolhapur as a solider and served there for a year.

He, however, didn’t give up on his hope to crack the NDA entrance. Luck finally smiled on Babasaheb when he cleared the entrance exam in his sixth attempt to join the NDA in December 2013.

Babasaheb told TOI, “It’s a big day for me and my family. I worked hard to be here and kept my morale high. The academy has changed my life completely.

I am confident and more disciplined now.” His father, said, “Rural students have the talent and they can reach the highest level provided they get timely guidance and support of their parents. Today, I feel proud of their achievements.”

Winning trioCadet Arjun Thakur, son of an English lecturer from a government-run junior college at Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, won the prestigious President’s gold medal for standing first in the overall order of merit of 133rd course of the NDA here on Thursday.

Thakur said, “Since my childhood, I dreamt of becoming an army officer and I was inspired by my great grandfather and uncle, who have served in the army.”

Arjun’s classmate and a close friend, Shashank Shekhar, who won the bronze medal at the parade, is the son of a private school teacher from Bihar. Shekhar said, “During a school visit to Andaman Nicobar Island, I came to know about the Indian Navy and decided to join it.

I would opt for naval aviation branch as it is more adventurous and exciting.”

Divisional cadet captain Rahul Bisht, who won the silver medal, said he was inspired to take up a career in the armed forces by his father, Arjun, who retired as an honorary captain from the 4 Parachute regiment of the Indian Army.
