Diamond League 2022 champion Neeraj Chopra was crowned on Friday after winning the final in Zurich with a best throw of 88.44 metres. Chopra achieved historical firsts by winning a Diamond League championship. The Diamond League trophy joins his legendary gold medals from the Tokyo Olympics and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Jakub Vadlecjh, the silver medalist from Tokyo 2020, put up a fierce fight against Chopra and recorded a best throw of 86.94 metres.

Julian Weber of Germany, who had a best throw of 83.73 metres, came in third.

With his first throw, Vadkecjh, who made an effort of 84.15 metres, took the lead. Neeraj’s first throw was not a legitimate one and it was not the best of starts for the Indian ace.

Vadlecjh next threw 86 metres to increase his chances, but Neeraj quickly took the lead with his second try, which ended up being the victor.

In his third attempt, he threw 88 metres whereas Vadlejch had a foul throw earlier in the round.

While Neeraj threw 86.11m, Vadlecjh improved on his performance with an 86.94m throw on his fourth attempt.

Neeraj threw 87m in his fifth try, meaning he had three throws that would have won him the final.

He concluded with a throw of 83.60 metres, but his last throw was only a formality because India’s first-ever Diamond League trophy had already been won by all of his rivals by the time they finished the final round of throws.
