Indigenous subsonic cruise missile ‘Nirbhay to be showcased on Republic day.

Indigenously designed and developed India’s first long-range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay which can carry warheads weighing up to 300 kg towards a target located 1000km away will be making its Republic day debut this time.

Two-stage missile is 6 meters long, 0.52 metre wide with a wingspan of 2.7 meters.

It can fly at a speed of 0.6 to 0.7 Mach. Its launch weight is about 1,500 kg an for the first time was spotted in Republic day Parade rehearsal with Missile Launcher.

The state-of-the-art sleek cruise missile conducted its 5th Test launch successfully last year.

Missile so far had Three failures and Two Successful launches and per media reports, DRDO is gearing up for more launches this year to improve the reliability of the weapons system before it enters small-scale production.
