BrahMos ALCM: Target Picture

Brahmos, the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile created history on 22nd Nov 2017 after it was successfully flight-tested first time from the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30MKI against a sea-based target in the Bay of Bengal.

2.5 ton Brahmos Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) hit a decommissioned naval asset positioned at the Bay of Bengal during its recent test.

DRDO for the first time has released a picture of the Vessel which got Hit by BrahMos ALCM.

400km BrahMos ALCM in its first Air launched trial covered 280 km before it penetrated the small vessel and created a hole and some fire which can be seen in the picture above.

BrahMos ALCM was not carrying any warhead yet it was able to damage the Vessel considerable with the sheer kinetic energy of missile.

India has started work to modify around 40 Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircrafts so that it can be equipped with Single 2.5 ton BrahMos ALCM.

India after entry into MTCR regime has started work to develop an 800km expanded range BrahMos with Russia by end of 2019.
