First shipment of armoured vehicles from Bharat Forge is delivered to the Indian Army

The Indian Army has received the first batch of armoured vehicles made at Bharat Forge Limited's Pune and Satara plants.

The Ministry of Defence placed a contract with the business for the supply of Kalyani M4 vehicles in 2021, totaling Rs 177.95 crore. According to Bharat Forge in a regulatory filing, the Indian Army gave the company the order for protected vehicles under emergency procurement.

The Pune-based company has signed an agreement with the international aerospace and technology company Paramount Group to produce armoured vehicles there.

The Kalyani M4 is a multi-role platform created to specifically satisfy the needs of the armed services for swift mobility in difficult terrain and in areas affected by mine and improvised explosive devices (IED) threats.

Before the Army placed the order for these vehicles as part of an emergency purchase during the China-India border stalemate, the Kalyani M4, which was made by Kalyani Group’s Bharat Forge, underwent thorough testing in Ladakh, which is also under the Northern Command.

According to officials, the vehicle can withstand three 10 kilogramme TNT bombs under the wheels and a 50 kg IED detonation to one side.
