Delhi govt begins test trial of anti-smog gun in Anand Vihar as air quality remains poor

New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government on Wednesday began testing of “anti-smog gun”, a machine that sprays water into the air, amid concerns over the alarming level of air pollution in the national capital.
According to ANI, the test trial of anti-smog gun was done near Anand Vihar Bus Station, where air quality presently remained ‘hazardous’ at 414.

The trial run is being conducted by the Department of Environment and Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Delhi Environment Minister Imran Hussain is believed to be monitoring the test trial of the anti-smog gun.
With Delhi grappling with deteriorating air quality, the AAP government had recently announced to begin a test trial of “anti-smog gun”.
Pollution levels in the national capital usually remain poor during winters primarily due to stubble burning from adjoining districts and rapid drop in temperature coupled with high moisture content, factors that trap particulates near the surface.
Anti-smog gun is a device which is used to sprays atomised water into the atmosphere to reduce air pollution.
Connected to a water tank and mounted on a vehicle, the device could be taken across the city to spray water to settle the dust and other suspended particles.
Besides this, the Delhi government is mulling a series of other measures such as conversion of two-wheelers to electric vehicles, and banning diesel generator sets as part of its ‘air action plan’.
