Man found hanging at Nahargarh Fort near Jaipur

Slogans against Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmavati were written on the stones lying nearby

A man was found hanging at Nahargarh Fort, near Jaipur, on Friday, with the slogans against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati written on the stones lying nearby. The deceased was identified on the basis of an Aadhaar card found in his pocket.

The slogans scrawled on the stones lying near the fort’s wall read: “Hum sirf putley nahi jalatey, latkatey hain” (We don’t just burn effigies, we hang them), and “Padmavati ka virodh” (opposing Padmavati).

After identifying the deceased as Chetan, police said it was not clear if it was a case of murder or suicide. Twenty-two-year-old Chetan was strangled with a plastic rope.

The Rajput Karni Sena, which has been spearheading a campaign against the epic drama, depicting the life and times of Chittorgarh’s Queen Padmini, distanced itself from the incident. Karni Sena’s Rajasthan unit President Mahipal Singh Makrana said the outfit had nothing to do with it.

Mr. Makrana said this was not the way of Karni Sena’s protest. An indefinite dharna against the movie is still continuing at the entrance gate of the Chittorgarh Fort.
