Members of the SCO sign the Samarkand Declaration

Included a decision on the Comprehensive Action Plan for 2023–2027 for putting the treaty's provisions on long-term good neighbourliness, friendship, and cooperation among SCO member states into practise.

Samarkand: On Friday, the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) signed the Samarkand declaration, which included a decision on the Comprehensive Action Plan for 2023–2027 for putting the treaty’s provisions on long-term good neighbourliness, friendship, and cooperation among SCO member states into practise.

A decision was also taken on the idea of cooperation between SCO member states to foster interconnectivity and build effective transportation corridors, as well as for the enhancement of the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Additionally, a decision was made about the rules governing the honorary position of SCO goodwill ambassador as well as the signature of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Memorandum of Commitment to join the SCO.

A decision was also made to begin the process of inviting the Republic of Belarus to join the SCO and to designate the State of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Maldives, and the Kingdom of Bahrain as SCO dialogue partners.

The summit also saw the signature of a Memorandum between the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, which designated Varanasi, India, as the SCO’s Tourism and Cultural Capital in 2022–2023. (2023-2027).

The resolution of the Council of the Heads of the SCO member states on the approval of the report of the Council of the SCO regional anti-terrorism structure on the activities of the SCO regional anti-terrorism structure in 2021 also included the approval of the report of the SCO Secretary-General on SCO activities for the period from September 2021 to September 2022.

A memorandum between authorised entities of the SCO member states on cooperation in museum matters and an agreement between the governments of the SCO member states on the expansion of cooperation in the sphere of tourism were made.

The SCO member states’ authorised organisations came to an agreement on cooperation in the area of plant quarantine and a programme of cooperation between authorized bodies of the SCO member states in the use of renewable energy sources.

Programs to promote industrial cooperation between the business communities of the SCO member states and a programme for collaboration between SCO member state authorised organisations on the promotion of digital literacy were among the decisions made.

Additionally, a decision was made on a roadmap for cooperation between medical organisations of the SCO member states in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases as well as on a programme of cooperation between authorised bodies of the SCO member states on the development of artificial intelligence.

The idea of collaboration between the Ministries of Health of SCO Member States in the sphere of telemedicine and the action plan for SCO Member States Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Priority Areas (2022–2025) were also adopted.

The idea of communication between SCO member states’ governing bodies in the field of “smart” agriculture and Agro-innovation was also covered.
