Elephant calf rescued in Krishnagiri

It fell into a 30-foot-deep dry farm well on Tuesday midnight.

In a short rescue mission, a three-month-old elephant calf, which had fallen into a farm well in Paavadaipatti in Rayakottai in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, was rescued on Tuesday.

The calf, believed to have been with its herd, is suspected to have slipped into the 30-foot-deep dry farm well on the fringes of Udedurgam Reserve Forest around Tuesday midnight.

After initial attempts to haul it up with a rope failed due to the resistance from the petrified calf, the forest rescue team cast a net into the dry well bed. Forest guards forced the calf into the net and hauled it up.

Efforts are on to guide it into the Udedurgam Reserve Forest as the calf was reluctant to walk into the forest. The herd is suspected to be inside the reserve forest.
