India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test: Indian bowlers dictate terms, bowl out SL for 205 on Day 1

Ashwin, Jadeja and Ishant took 10 wickets between them to bowl SL out cheaply; but India lost KL Rahul (7) during the eight tricky overs they needed to negotiate before close of play.

New Delhi: Top bowling effort from India’s spin twins R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja and an impressive return to national duty by fast bowler Ishant Sharma saw India take the opening-day hours of the second Test against Sri Lanka, who were bowled out for 205 in Nagpur on Friday.

The trio took ten wickets between them after Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and decided to bat at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Jamtha.

Ashwin and Jadeja, who went wicketless in the first Test at Kolkata, returned figures of 4/67 and 3/56, while Ishant bowled a telling spell of 3/37 to bowl out the Lankans for a paltry total in 79.1 overs.

Chandimal (57) and opener Dimuth Karunaratne (51) were the only Lankan batsmen who showed some sort of resistance before being dismissed at crucial moments.

However, Sri Lanka struck an early blow in the eight overs India were required to face when KL Rahul (7) edged a Lahiru Gamage delivery onto his stumps.

Murali Vijay (2) and Cheteshwar Pujara (2) were at the crease when umpires called stumps with India’s scorecard reading 11/1.
