Wipro’s CEO, who fired 300 workers for “moonlighting,” received “hate messages” as a result

According to reports, Wipro CEO Rishad Premji is getting hate mail after the company let off 300 workers for "moonlighting."

After claiming that 300 employees were let off by Wipro for “moonlighting,” Rishad Premji received a number of “hate messages.” The Wipro CEO faced backlash for calling “moonlighting,” which refers to taking on additional tasks or jobs outside of one’s regular employment, “cheating.”

According to Rishad Premji, 300 employees were let go after it was discovered that they were surreptitiously working for other companies. The event happened “a few months ago,” most likely just around the time he posted about working two jobs.

The senior executive further stated that while he does not object to staff working additional jobs, he hopes for greater openness.

The Wipro CEO’s comment prompted a discussion on “moonlighting,” and Premji allegedly received hate mail from those who didn’t agree with his choice. Premji has asserted that he still stands by his choice in spite of this.

HATE SENTEMS TO PREMJI
After making the comment about “moonlighting,” Rishad Premji received numerous emails and texts from people arguing that his choice was incorrect. They have also made hints of escalating the situation.

While Rishad Premji continues to support his choice, other employees have dubbed Wipro’s as unlawful.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a group of employees, has referred to Wipro’s action as “unethical.”

NITES has stated that some provisions in employment contracts and offer letters need to be amended. The group promised to see to it that the sacked workers received fair treatment.

Many other IT firms, including IBM and Infosys, have stated they will follow Wipro’s lead and take strong action against employees who “moonlight.”

WIPRO CHIEF REINSTATES HIS CHOICE
Rishad Premji, the chairman of Wipro, has been under fire after he tweeted that moonlighting is unethical. However, Premji has made it clear that neither he nor the organisation would be concerned by these hate communications.

According to Rishad Premji, moonlighting has a negative influence on the interests of the company, and as a result, the employees who engaged in the activity were sacked.

One of the first to speak out against moonlighting is the Wipro CEO. According to Moneycontrol, Premji added, “If you genuinely look at the definition of moonlighting, it is having a second job secretly, speaking at an All India Management Association event. I’m a huge proponent of openness. Transparency allows for incredibly honest interactions within organisations.

Recently, Infosys also threatened to fire any employees who took up a second job during or after working hours. “Remember – NO TWO-TIMING – NO MOONLIGHTING (sic),” the HR team wrote in the email. The employer made clear that any breach of the terms could result in dismissal.
