Indian Navy will support LCA-NAVY but will not induct them : Navy Chief

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said here on Friday that the Indian Navy is committed for indigenisation and supported the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project but said it should be adopted to suit Navy’s requirement.

He was referring to the proposed indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas to be made for Navy. Addressing annual press conference before the Navy Day Chief of The Naval Staff (CNS) said that we support the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas MKII for Navy.

“We have 40 percent share in Tejas MK II for Navy.

The only problem with present form is that it cannot take off from the ship deck. We need deck based fighter with combat capability”, said Admiral Lanba.

He was making his stand on the proposed LCA Tejas MKII for Indian Navy.

Since the LCA Tejas do not support the Navy’s requirement, the Indian Navy had hosted a global request for information (RFI) for multi role carrier borne fighter aircraft in January this year.
