Indian-Origin Home Secretary Suella Braverman Named to New UK Cabinet

From 2020 until 2022, Suella Braverman served as attorney general.

London: A British barrister of Indian heritage named Suella Braverman to replace her fellow Indian-born colleague Priti Patel as the country’s new home secretary.

Suella Braverman was chosen by Liz Truss, the new British prime minister, to serve as her home secretary.

“Great to be at @ukhomeoffice this evening to meet the team as we begin our work: making our streets safer, supporting our security services and controlling immigration,” she said in a tweet.
“Thank you to everyone at @attorneygeneral for enjoyable 2-and-a-bit years. You are an excellent and dedicated team and achieved a huge amount of which you can be proud,” she said in another tweet.

From 2020 until 2022, Suella Braverman served as attorney general.

From January until November of last year, she served as the Department for Exiting the European Union’s Parliamentary Under Secretary of State. In May 2015, Suella won the election to represent Fareham as a Conservative.

Liz Truss, the head of the Conservative Party, was named as the new prime minister of the United Kingdom by Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday.

“The Queen received Liz Truss at Balmoral Castle today. Her Majesty asked her to form a new Administration. Truss accepted Her Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury,” The Royal Family tweeted.

After defeating former chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak on Monday, Truss was chosen to lead the Conservative Party in the UK.

Truss became the first prime minister to be chosen by the Queen outside of Buckingham Palace, as is customary, in Scotland.

The new prime minister will return to London after his meeting with the monarch and give a speech in front of Downing Street.

Liz Truss, who is 47 years old, was elected as the third female prime minister of the UK.

Through a postal ballot among all Conservative members, Truss defeated Rishi Sunak. While Sunak received 60,399 votes, she received 81,326.

“I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party. Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead and deliver for our great country. I will take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom’s potential,” Truss wrote on Twitter.
