IAF chief bats for jointmanship among armed forces

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa on Tuesday stressed on the need for jointmanship among the three wings of the armed forces.

The air chief, who was in the city to address the medical and nursing cadets of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and the College of Nursing, highlighted the ways and means of addressing contemporary challenges and future conflicts in a joint war fighting environment.

Later, he delivered a talk organised by the Centre for Advanced Strategic Studies (CASS), a think tank, at the Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Dhanoa shared his views on the transformation in the strategies adopted by Indian Air Force to counter the challenges of external and internal security faced by the nation since its inception.

Emphasizing on the evolving ‘jointness’ among the services post-independence, the successes of joint institutes of war fighting at the tactical, operational and strategic level in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, he also deliberated on the way ahead.

Dhanoa spoke about the IAF’s broad strategy to counter the growing threat of terrorism through the medium of air and its ever preparedness in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in India and in the Indian Ocean region.

He also spoke on the roadmap of indigenisation and self-reliance in military equipment, which is being pursued in collaboration with the armed forces.

Director of CASS Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale (retd) and former Indian Foreign Services officer M K Mangalmurti, who is president of the CASS, were among the dignitaries and armed forces veterans present at the talk.
