Navy to get Second Scorpene Class Submarine “INS Khanderi” in 2018 .

The Indian Navy a few weeks back took delivery of first of the six Scorpene submarines being constructed in India by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in collaboration with DCNS, France, when INS Kalvari was inducted into the fleet in presence of Prime Minister Narender Modi.

Second submarine ” INS Khanderi ” which was launched this year and is going through a number of trials will be ready to be inducted by end of March or April as per latest media report.

INS Karanj which is the third submarine has completed all fabrication work is almost ready for launch in early weeks of 2018 but will join Indian Navy only in the first week of 2019 after going through intensive multiple sea trials.

Indian Navy will get all Six Kalvari Class Submarines by end of 2021 and presently all submarines will be using German SUT torpedos due to scrapped Finmeccanica’s contract for the Black Shark torpedoes but all submarines will also be armed with French SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missile.
