Two held, one surrenders in Petrol bomb attack case

Two functionaries of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhakam (TPDK) were held in connection with hurling of petrol bombs at BJP office in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as M. Jeevanantham (30) aka Jeeva of Neeelikonampalayam and P. Balan (37) of Cheran Nagar near Kavundampalayam. A third person named Gowtham of Singanallur, a friend of Jeevanantham, surrendered at Saibaba Colony police station following the arrest of the duo.

The police said a two-wheeler belonging to Gowtham which was used for the attack was seized.

Visuals from a surveillance camera of the party office showed two men hurling petrol bombs at the office and a third person accompanying them. A policeman was on sentry duty at the office when the attack happened around 3.20 a.m.

Jeevanantham and Balan have been held under Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC.
