BSF creates a drone system for security officers to drop tear gas shells

In a video the military posted, at least six tear smoke shells are densely packed inside a metal cage that is mounted beneath a hexacopter drone. The tear shells are released from the drone system.

In New Delhi: According to a senior officer of the border-guarding force on Friday, the BSF has devised a drone system that can drop tear gas shells to help police disperse riots and demonstrators.

These shells can be fired from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone using the “drone tear smoke launcher,” according to him, and it “will be a potential force multiplier for the security forces working in the law-and-order management arena.”

The new system, according to a Border Security Force (BSF) spokesperson, was recently tested at the organization’s renowned tear smoke unit (TSU) in Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the director general of the BSF, presided over the annual meeting of the special unit in Delhi where this information was presented.

The TSU, which was founded in 1976 under the BSF, creates and produces anti-riot tear and smoke munitions for both central and state police forces. In addition to serving in a number of capacities in the country’s internal security arena, the BSF is principally deployed to secure India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

At least six tear smoke shells were densely packed in a metal cage that was mounted beneath a hexacopter drone in a video clip that the force shared. At predetermined locations, the drone system drops the tear shells from the air.

The BSF DG thanked the TSU at the conference for developing a variety of non-lethal weapons for the police and security services, noting that “domestic manufacture of these products has reduced the country’s dependence on foreign weapons.”

According to the BSF spokeswoman, the TSU also manufactures a number of different lachrymatory munitions, flash-bang shells, impact munitions, and customised goods for special operations.
