India and the EU are going to work even harder together to combat climate change

Both parties decided to step up their collaboration on sustainable financing mobilisation, renewable energy & grid integration, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency.

Brussels: With a focus on clean energy and climate action, with a particular emphasis on solar energy and green hydrogen, the European Union and India will enhance their alliance and deepen their bilateral cooperation.

The European Union’s strategic ally, India, is important. India’s second-largest export market is the EU, which is also its third-largest trading partner. With a tremendous amount of untapped potential, it is also among the biggest investors in India. Both have a strong desire to see that the transition to a greener future is successful.

According to a press release from the European Commission, the EU and India have been cooperating closely to advance the Clean Energy and Climate Partnership’s goals of accelerating the deployment of renewable energy, promoting energy efficiency, collaborating on smart grid and storage technology, and modernising the electricity market.

The EU and India are closely allied in their efforts to combat climate change and have set themselves ambitious renewable energy goals. The Commissioner commended India’s ambitious renewable energy targets and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to step up its assistance with India to fulfil these Renewable targets during her meeting with Union Ministers R.K. Singh, Pralhad Joshi, and Minister of State, Bhagwanth Khuba.

Both parties decided to step up their collaboration on sustainable financing mobilisation, renewable energy & grid integration, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency. The first EU India Hydrogen Forum, which will aid in accelerating collaboration on green hydrogen, which is a priority for both, was also inaugurated by Minister R.K. Singh and Commissioner Simson.

The Commissioner praised India’s leadership in international organisations like the International Solar Alliance and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to both of these programmes. The Commissioner welcomed the growing number of EU Member States joining this significant new international organisation and reaffirmed the EU’s unwavering support for ISA’s goals in her meeting with ISA Director General Ajay Mathur.

The event on solar energy was also launched during Commissioner Simson’s visit, and she emphasised the need for a safe and diversified supply chain, including expanding the capacity for PV manufacturing across the globe. For both solar energy equipment and solar energy deployment, she emphasised the importance of open, competitive, and rule-based market solutions.

Promoting India-EU cooperation on green hydrogen is another crucial factor. Commissioner Simson reaffirmed that international collaboration is a crucial component of the EU’s hydrogen policy and that India is a significant partner in this regard at the First EU India Hydrogen Forum.

In her inaugural speech, she emphasised the importance of focusing more on hydrogen in the EU-India clean energy partnership, which will complement the EU’s strong commitment to supporting India’s massive deployment of renewable energy for direct electrification, for energy access, and to meet the growing demand for electricity in a clean and sustainable manner, according to a press release.

Additionally, the Commissioner indicated interest in looking into the possibilities of leveraging private sector investments in cutting-edge technology to develop a pipeline of hydrogen projects in India in conjunction with financial partners as part of the EU Global Gateway initiative. Businesses from the EU and India gathered at the event to talk about future hydrogen collaborations. (ANI)
