PM Modi likely to have bilateral meetings with Putin, Uzbekistan President during SCO summit

Tashkent: According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely meet privately on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand with Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan.

According to a source who spoke to ANI, PM Modi will meet separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the margins of the SCO summit in Samarkand.

According to sources, it will be PM Modi and President Putin’s first encounter since the Ukraine conflict. After the crisis started, the two presidents chatted on the phone with one another.

The Prime Minister will also have additional bilateral discussions at the summit, which gets underway in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 14.

On the sidelines of the SCO summit, the presidents of Russia and China are also expected to meet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the summit and have bilateral discussions with a number of dignitaries, according to earlier comments made by Indian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Manish Prabhat.

“Due to the COVID pandemic, SCO member country leaders are gathering after a two-year hiatus. On the fringes of the SCO, there will be some bilateral meetings, but the agendas will be finalised in due course “In an exclusive interview with ANI, Ambassador Prabhat revealed.

When we meet with central Asian countries, we discuss connectivity that will promote trade, investment, and other exchanges between Indian and central Asian countries, he told ANI. “Economic cooperation in the SCO is an important question, which, of course, will be discussed in the SCO meetings,” he said.

The summit is also anticipated to include the participation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The SCO will be presided over by Uzbekistan in 2022, and India will take over as chair after that.
