Mumbai: An increase in taxi and auto fares is effective as of right now
On September 27, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) announced increases in the base fares for taxis and automobiles of 3 and 2 rupees, respectively.
Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, will see a rise in the base fee for both autos and taxis (Kaali-peeli) from today. The increase in the base fares for taxis and automobiles of 3 and 2 respectively was announced by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) on September 27.
“Beyond this minimum flag down distance, passengers will have to pay ₹18.66 per km instead of ₹16.93 per km for taxis and ₹15.33 a km instead of 14.20 (per km) for auto-rickshaws,” the release said.
The MMRTA has announced that the increased taxi and auto fares in Mumbai would take effect as of today, October 1.
Since the first of March 2021, the current MMR fares for the roughly 60,000 taxis and the 4.6 lakh auto-rickshaws have been in effect.
The MMRTA has provided two months, from October 1 to November 30, for the recalibration of fare metres installed in taxis and auto rickshaws, according to the announcement.
The Maharashtra transport secretary presided over the MMRTA meeting where the decision to raise the tariffs was made. However, it wasn’t made public until after the meeting’s minutes were approved.
Mumbai vehicle rates beginning on October 1:
Auto base fare increase: The 1.5 km minimum fare has increased from 21 to 23.

Taxi rates in Mumbai as of October 1, 2022:
Taxi base rate increase: The minimum fare for a 1.5 km trip has increased from $25 to $28.
Taxi charge for the distance to the flag down location: Beginning on October 1, customers in Mumbai would pay 18.66 per km rather than 16.93. (per km)
Blue-and-silver “Cool” taxis The minimum base fare is increased from 33 to 40 cents per kilometre, and after that, the per-kilometer fare for these taxis will be 26.71 cents.
The MMRTA notified that the increased charge for autorickshaws and taxis in Mumbai is applicable to both gasoline- and CNG-operated taxis. The price of CNG was increased to 80 per kg from 49.40 per kg on March 1, 2021, in addition to the rising cost of living, inflation, and other considerations, it claimed. The taxi and auto rickshaw rates were also adjusted.
